Heart and vascular diseases are one of the leading health risks alongside cancer in the Netherlands. The increased risk is partly due to aging and can partly be considered a result of lifestyle-related diseases. We are also seeing an increase in vascular diseases in other parts of the world where prosperity has risen.

What is less commonly known is that chronic kidney disease is also on the rise. This is not surprising when you consider that the kidneys are some of the most well-perfused organs in the body—about 25% of the heart’s output passes through these small organs, filtering blood and regulating fluid levels. Therefore, vascular damage is often first detected through a Kidney Screening.

What to Expect During the Screening:

1. Initial Questionnaire
   You will fill in a short questionnaire to check for specific risk factors.
2. Blood and Urine Tests
   These tests assess key indicators for kidney and vascular health.
3. Consultation with a Nephrologist
   You will have a phone consultation with a nephrologist (a specialist in kidney diseases and vascular medicine) to review your risk profile and receive tailored advice regarding any necessary follow-up.
