    Standard Heart and Vascular Examination

This examination focuses on the heart and includes:

    • Blood Test
    • ECG (Electrocardiogram)
    • Blood Pressure Measurement
    • Heart Ultrasound (Echocardiography)
    • Exercise Stress Test (Ergometry)
    • Evaluation Consultation with a Cardiologist

    Price: €599

A blood test allows us to assess your cardiovascular risk profile. The test analyzes your cholesterol spectrum, kidney, liver, and thyroid function, glucose levels, and an overall blood count.

An electrocardiogram (ECG), or heart tracing, is a simple, risk-free test that only takes a few minutes. Electrodes are placed on your skin to detect the heart’s electrical signals.

The electrodes are attached to your wrists, ankles, and chest using adhesive patches. These electrodes are connected to the ECG machine, which records the heart’s electrical activity in a graph. It is important to remain still during the test to avoid interference in the results.

Echocardiography uses high-frequency sound waves to examine the size and function of the heart and its valves. This test helps the cardiologist make an accurate diagnosis and determine the best course of treatment.

The examination is performed by an echocardiographer and is completely painless.

The exercise stress test, commonly known as a bicycle test, shows how your heart performs under physical exertion. The goal is to reach your maximum effort during the examination.

The cardiology technician closely monitors your heart’s activity and how you feel throughout the test. Once you’ve reached your maximum effort, you can rest and recover.

Since the test requires significant energy output, it is important to have eaten before starting the test. Please wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely (women can keep their bras on). You can change before and after the test; however, shower facilities are not available.

The primary goal of this examination is to screen for cardiovascular diseases rather than general health issues. In some cases, abnormalities may be discovered that could cause unnecessary concern—particularly if they turn out to be non-significant or benign findings.

Abnormalities may lead to additional follow-up tests, which can sometimes be taxing or stressful for the patient. Therefore, it’s important to approach the results with an understanding of their specific focus and limitations.

    Comprehensive Heart and Vascular Examination

This examination focuses on the heart, carotid arteries, and major abdominal arteries. It includes:

    • Blood Test
    • Ultrasound of the Carotid Arteries, Abdominal Arteries, and Groin Arteries
    • ECG (Electrocardiogram)
    • Blood Pressure Measurement
    • Heart Ultrasound (Echocardiography)
    • Exercise Stress Test (Ergometry)
    • Evaluation Consultation with a Cardiologist

A blood test allows us to assess your cardiovascular risk profile. The test analyzes your cholesterol spectrum, kidney, liver, and thyroid function, glucose levels, and an overall blood count.

A duplex ultrasound is a combination of Doppler ultrasound and standard ultrasound. This technique makes the blood flow not only audible but also visible.

The scan checks for narrowing or widening of the carotid arteries, the abdominal aorta, and the arteries leading to the groin. This procedure is painless.

Abnormal findings may also lead to additional follow-up tests, which can sometimes be stressful or taxing. It’s important to be aware of this context when interpreting the results.

    Preliminary Screening

    Why Undergo a Preliminary Screening?

In the Netherlands, approximately 1.5 million people suffer from chronic cardiovascular diseases. Every day, over 100 people die from cardiovascular diseases, of whom 24 are younger than 75 years old (source: Dutch Heart Foundation).

Screening offers an opportunity to become aware of your risk for cardiovascular diseases. If you have no symptoms, the screening will most likely show no abnormalities, offering you peace of mind. However, if abnormalities are detected, you can be referred to your GP or a specialist. Preventive screening can help diagnose an issue at an early stage, potentially improving the outcome.

    Important Considerations

The screening focuses specifically on cardiovascular diseases, not on overall general health. In some cases, the detection of abnormalities may cause unnecessary concern—especially if they turn out to be insignificant or unrelated to your health.

Abnormal findings may also lead to additional follow-up tests, which can sometimes be stressful or burdensome. It’s important to understand that while preventive screening can be beneficial, it may also lead to further examinations that may not always be necessary.

Frequently Asked Questions About Heart & Vascular Screening

You can find all the details under Heart & Vascular Screening, but keep in mind that the process involves multiple steps, including radiology, blood sampling, and the exercise stress test. So, it may take some time. You will receive a report from the cardiologist at the end.

In the comprehensive screening, we also check the major blood vessels, including the carotid arteries (neck), abdominal arteries, and groin arteries.
